AirTrunk was pleased to contribute to the report released today by OpenAI on Australia’s AI opportunities.
Australia stands at a pivotal decision point. We can:
– Choose to accelerate AI adoption
– Build domestic capability, or
– Become a regional AI hub
The report finds that Australia doesn’t need to choose just one path: it is uniquely positioned to pursue all three simultaneously.
This is thanks to strategic advantages such as abundant land, affordable renewable energy, a highly skilled workforce, and our status as a Five Eyes nation.
Realising this full ambition could unlock up to $142 billion annually for the Australian economy by 2030. However, to achieve this, data centre investment will need to exceed $40 billion (excluding the investment in compute), expanding total deployed capacity to 4.1GW.
As our Founder & CEO, Robin Khuda said: “Australia has an opportunity to shape the future of AI — as an architect and a builder — in a way that supports Australians, our industries and our businesses. But we must seize this once-in-a-generation moment.”
AirTrunk is committed to helping build the infrastructure, skills, and trust needed to realise Australia’s full AI potential — alongside leading industry associations and data centre operators.
