Growth opportunity for Malaysia as a public cloud investment destination

AirTrunk Deputy CEO Michael Juniper discussed the growth opportunity for Malaysia as a public cloud investment destination at the Invest Malaysia Kuala Lumpur (IMKL) 2023 Series 2 event.

Michael spoke about the favourable attributes Malaysia presents for data centre development including the government’s strong desire to grow the local digital economy – for example through the MyDigital initiative – available land and renewable energy potential.

He also spoke about the significant investment announcements by AirTrunk and other operators to build data centres in Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur, the acceleration of AI workloads in driving strong demand, and how we are helping our customers respond to the AI opportunity in Malaysia and across Asia.

In January 2023, AirTrunk announced the development of its first Malaysian hyperscale data centre, JHB1 in Johor Bahru, driven by rapidly increasing cloud adoption in the region.

Michael appeared at the event alongside Azhar Abdullah from Amazon Web Services (AWS) Malaysia and Henrick Choo from NTT Ltd. Malaysia. The event was hosted by Bursa Malaysia and Macquarie Group.
